Duke Moving Co is a Charlotte crew from start to finish

When you book Duke Moving Co, the people who pad your furniture, load the truck, drive it across town or down I-85, and set the last box down are our own W-2 employees in our own uniforms, on our own trucks. We aren’t a booking site that hands your move off to whoever answers first, and we don’t sell your details to a broker’s call list. One company gives you the price, one company shows up, and one company is on the hook if anything goes sideways. You get a flat rate in writing before move day, and that written number is the number you pay. If a job runs longer than we figured, we eat the risk, not you.

How Wade Hollis ended up starting it

Wade Hollis grew up in east Charlotte off Central Avenue, and his first steady paycheck came from a warehouse out near the airport, stacking freight and learning how a load is supposed to ride so nothing shifts. After that he spent years with a national van line running the I-85 corridor between Charlotte and Atlanta. Those long hauls taught him something he didn’t like: how the big outfits quote low to win the job, then pad the invoice once the truck is loaded and the customer has no leverage left. In 2013 he’d seen enough of it, bought a single truck, and started Duke Moving Co on one rule that hasn’t moved since.

I watched too many families get handed a bigger bill than the estimate, and always after the truck was full and they couldn’t say no. I built Duke so that never happens here. You sign a flat rate, and that flat rate is what you pay. — Wade Hollis, owner

Knowing Charlotte is half the job

A move here is rarely just a truck and a couple of guys. The address decides most of it — whether there’s a dock to reserve, an oak-lined street too tight for a full-size truck, an HOA that wants paperwork on file, or a driveway that drops off a hillside. We sort the Charlotte-specific parts out before the crew ever pulls up, so nobody is improvising on your clock.

  • We reserve the freight-elevator window and the loading dock ahead of time, so an Uptown tower doesn’t turn our truck away at the door
  • On the narrow one-way streets under the Myers Park and Dilworth oaks, we bring a shuttle van for the last stretch instead of wedging a 26-footer where a century-old tree won’t let it fit
  • We file the certificate of insurance with your Ballantyne or south Charlotte HOA before the move-in window, not the morning of
  • Steep Lake Norman driveways in Cornelius and Huntersville get the right truck and enough hands, never a guess
  • When a summer storm blows the tail of its rain inland or a Carolina ice day is in the forecast, we move the date the night before rather than lose a crew out on I-485

The people who run it and show up

Duke is a small, named team — the same faces answer the phone, work the dispatch board, and stand in your driveway. Nobody here is a subcontractor pulled off an app that morning.

  • Wade HollisOwner; still quotes the tricky jobs himself and drives the hard winter ones
  • Camille BoydOffice Manager & Scheduling; the voice on the phone and the person who locks in your window
  • Trent WhitakerOperations & Dispatch; builds routes around dock windows, HOA rules, and the forecast
  • Deshawn ElleryLead Crew Chief; runs the Uptown freight-elevator and shuttle jobs
  • Cole RadfordSenior Mover; the muscle on the heavy pieces and the careful hands on the antiques
  • Nadia FryeMove Coordinator & Storage; handles closings that slide and the storage side

From one truck to eight

We’ve grown a truck and a hire at a time, adding people only when the calendar made it obvious we were short-handed.

  1. 2013: Wade opens Duke Moving Co with one truck out of a rented bay, quoting every job by hand
  2. 2015: Camille Boyd takes over the office and scheduling as a second and third truck join the yard
  3. 2017: Deshawn Ellery comes on and becomes the crew chief we send into Uptown high-rises and tight shuttle jobs
  4. 2019: Trent Whitaker takes operations and dispatch, folding dock windows, HOA rules, and the weather into how routes get planned
  5. 2021: Nadia Frye joins to run move coordination and the storage side as more closings start slipping their dates
  6. 2024: the fleet reaches eight trucks and Cole Radford steps up to senior mover

Thirteen years in, I still pick up the phone on the jobs that scare people — the fifth-floor walk-up, the ice-storm reschedule, the piano down a Dilworth stoop. Word of mouth fills this calendar faster than any ad ever has, and I’d rather earn the next one than buy it. — Wade Hollis, owner, Duke Moving Co

Good questions

Charlotte moving questions, answered

Do you handle full-service moves, or just the truck?

Full service is the whole point. Packing, local jobs, long hauls, and narrow-street logistics all run under one flat rate set for the truck before work begins. A Myers Park alley or an HOA form doesn't turn into a separate charge later, whether you're in a Ballantyne new-build or an older South Side home.

Is it actually your crew, or could someone else show up?

Ours, always. Every truck carries our name, and every mover on it went through our own hiring and training, nobody gets pulled in for a single day. Odds are good the person who quoted your job is also the one in your driveway.

How long has this company been around?

Since 2013. Wade began with a single truck and a flat-rate model out of the South Blvd yard, and the crew has picked up plenty since, which streets close for an Uptown Saturday, which Myers Park alleys need a shuttle, which HOA calendars leave zero flexibility.

Where can I find your office?

1218 Industrial Dr, Matthews, NC 28105. We regularly cover Ballantyne, Huntersville, Matthews, Mint Hill, Pineville, Concord, and Dilworth, plus long hauls on I-77, I-85, and I-85. Duke Moving Co carries North Carolina registration and full insurance.

Why Charlotte books us

Why choose Duke Moving Co?

Same crew, same trucks, same written price from the first call to the last box off the truck.

Flat, Written Pricing

The number we quote is the number you pay. No hourly creep, no fuel line, no surprise total once the ramp is down.

Our Own Crews

The movers who show up are on our payroll and in our uniforms — never day labor, never a broker who hands your job to a stranger.

Licensed & Insured

A registered North Carolina household-goods mover with full cargo coverage on every load, and a certificate of insurance whenever a building asks.

We Know This City

Uptown high-rise loading windows, Dilworth’s tight historic streets, Ballantyne HOA rules — planned before move day, not sorted out on your driveway.

We Answer, and We Show Up

Someone real picks up the phone, and the crew arrives in the window we gave you. If plans change, you reschedule with no penalty.

Handled with care

How we protect what’s yours

Wrapped, not rushed

Furniture gets blankets and shrink wrap before it ever leaves the room — no bare edges riding on the truck.

Floors and doorways covered

Runners go down and door jambs get padded, so nothing gets scuffed on the way out or in.

Taken apart, put back together

Beds, tables, and cribs come apart and go back together at the other end — you never touch a tool.

Cartons for the fragile stuff

TVs, mirrors, glass, and art travel in proper boxes with corner protection, not wedged between couches.

The right gear on every job

Dollies, straps, and ramps do the heavy lifting, so the big pieces move safely — not on someone’s back.

One crew, start to finish

The same uniformed team loads and unloads. Your things are never handed off to a stranger or a subcontractor.

The owner spoke to me on a Sunday afternoon and he worked us into his schedule the following day. We needed some heavy furniture moved to our bonus room. Highly recommend!
